Get to Know Me

Hello hello,

My name is Mx. Cameron Woods (he/him), and I am a second-year kindergarten teacher who graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. My favorite color is yellow, and if I am not wearing that, then you’ll most likely find me wearing green.

My teaching philosophy is fundamentally rooted in creativity and whimsy. Magical and enchanted worlds can be found in fiction, of course. However, every great story begins with something from the mundane. Therefore, I believe that an ounce of imagination can flourish into rushing rivers of knowledge and self-discovery. Separating imagination from education disconnects the children of today and tomorrow from a vast world that continues to offer itself.

I believe in creating a safe and colorful space within my classroom. With intention and passion, I strive to offer my students the chance to learn new ways to understand the world that surrounds them. I value autonomy and authenticity as I push my students to take up space and hold confidence in their ability to change the world. As for me, teaching is like theater — blending life and art to reimagine stories and the lessons we learn from them.

Fun facts about me:

• Outside of teaching, I am an artist with a love of drawing, painting, and writing.
• I enjoy learning about the world around us and different cultures.
• I love mourning doves, Honduran white bats, luna moths, bees, and koi fish.
• I have an interest in monsters and magic!
